A chat with Charan Rai, Talent Manager

This week on Behind the Scenes we're talking to Chaz, our talent manager.

Chaz has previously worked in recruitment for small tech start-ups and loves watching the people she’s hired progress in their roles. At the rate we’re growing, joining our team was a no-brainer for her!

Who are you and what do you do at Florence?

My name is Charan, but people call me Chaz for short - I'm the talent manager at Florence.

In terms of my day to day responsibilities, I’m in charge of the whole recruitment process, so all of the hiring, getting candidates through the door, offering roles and making sure they have a good interview and onboarding experience as well.

What made you want to join Florence?

The main thing that attracted me to Florence is the people. People are very passionate about what they do here, and that resonates a lot with me.

I always want to work at a business that’s passionate, and something I've noticed is everyone loves their jobs as well. That’s what drew me in.

Also, it’s nice to be a part of something that’s number one in a great sector. It’s great to know you’re working in a company that’s genuinely trying to help people, and is caring and kind.

Chaz and our the star of the London office, Luna!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

The best piece of advice I’ve been given is from my dad, and it’s “whatever you decide to do, give it 100% and have no regrets.”

What’s your favourite thing about working at Florence?

The autonomy that we have within the role, I would say. If I want to try a strange way of attracting candidates, I’m given that free rein to do so. Your manager really trusts you and you know that you were hired because you can do the job, so you’re left to do your own thing and then you can go and report back.

I also like the social side of the company, like the rounders team.

What’s the biggest challenge Florence is facing at the moment?

I think it’s staying ahead of our competitors. There are so many other companies that are trying to do something similar to Florence; it’s about making sure we’re ahead but doing it in the right way, and for the right reasons, in keeping with our values.

What’s a fun fact about you that might surprise us?

I studied Geology! I stared at rocks for like five hours a day drawing them.

What piece of advice would you give to someone thinking about joining Florence?

Do it! 100%, there is no question!

Ask questions, questions, questions!

At Florence you can never ask too many questions, you’re with industry experts. Be the sponge and try to soak up as much information as you can because you’re in the best place to learn.

That’ll set you up for success.

Where do you see Florence in five years?

Ideally, a global company and a diverse and inclusive company at the same time. We want to make sure we’re not always hiring the same demographic.

I think we’ll be award winning, and will have grown and expanded and be the number one go-to company in the industry.

Want to join us here at Florence? We’re hiring!
