Meet Florence Star Award winner Jubayer [Jan 2023]

For this month’s Florence Star Award, we’re celebrating Jubayer, an experienced healthcare assistant whose one-on-one work goes consistently above and beyond.

Making a difference

Just before Christmas, we received a very special Florence Star Award nomination. During an unscheduled visit, a social worker had seen Jubayer working with a young man at a local care home. The experience left her with a warm glow.

“When he first arrived at the home more than a year ago, the resident, who has epilepsy, felt very unsettled,” she said. “Now, he has fewer seizures and seems much happier. It’s lovely to see the relationship Jubayer has built with him.”

The young man’s family and friends are impressed with Jubayer, too. When he first moved into the care home, they worried about him; now, they regularly plan trips into the community because they know that Jubayer will be with him.

Because he loves being outside so much, Jubayer takes the resident – who uses a wheelchair – for walks as often as possible. On any given day, you can find the duo outside in the care home grounds, or doing an activity together. Everyone agrees that Jubayer has improved the young man’s quality of life.

Jubayer’s journey into a caring career

Jubayer’s career in care began because of a chance meeting in 2016 when he worked part-time at an adult language training school. One day, he offered a visiting care agency director a cup of tea, and the two struck up a conversation.

The visitor offered Jubayer a care role on the spot, which he enthusiastically accepted.

A couple of years later, he saw an advert for Florence on Facebook and decided to sign up. He describes his first shift as “joyful” and hasn’t looked back since.

“I love being a care worker,” says Jubayer. “When I see happiness on the face of the person I’m working with, it makes me feel happy too.”

Working with Florence

“One of the things I like most about working with Florence is the instant pay,” says Jubayer. “It’s helpful to have that money coming in right after the end of your shift.”

Jubayer also enjoys the independence he’s gained with Florence. He appreciates being able to choose his shifts via the app and plans to continue working with us indefinitely.

Florence Academy is really useful as well,” says Jubayer. “I can use the training platform to develop my career whenever I want, without any boundaries.”

A testament to care

High-quality care can make a huge positive impact on a person’s wellbeing, and we’re so glad people like Jubayer work with Florence.
