How do I join Florence as a carer or senior carer?

Whether you’re a carer or senior carer* in Northern Ireland, you will require to meet certain criteria and provide documents to complete your registration with Florence.

* Note senior carers will need an extra training certificate. See below.

 

Minimum professional care experience requirements

Are you a carer?
To register as a carer with Florence, you must have at least 6 months of care experience in the UK.

Are you a senior carer?
Senior carers must have a minimum of 3 years of care experience in the UK.

This ensures that you have the essential skills and hands-on knowledge needed to provide high-quality care to those who need it most.

How do I register with Florence?

  • Simply download the Florence app.
  • You can complete your entire registration process via the app.
  • The team will be in touch to offer support.
  • Enter your postcode and basic details to see if there are shifts available near you.
  • If shifts are available, you can go ahead and complete registration.
  • If there aren’t any shifts near you, we’ll put you on our waiting list and contact you when things change.

What documents do I need to provide?

In order to complete your registration and start getting shifts, you will need to provide the below documents via the Florence app.

Two employment references

What is considered a reference?
To work with Florence, you’ll need at least two employment references who can confirm your professional care experience.
   – These must come from a professional email address.
   – If possible, multiple references covering the past 3 consecutive years are also welcome.

From overseas?
If you are from outside the UK, your references must be:
   – On company letterhead paper, and
   – Attached to an email from a professional address

​Note: one of your references must be from your most recent UK employer. Your references must also be verified through your work history.

No references?
Unfortunately, if your references don’t confirm your care experience, we will not be able to continue with your application.

Right to Work: passport or sharecode

To confirm your Right to Work (RTW) in the UK, we’ll need one of the following:

For British Citizens:
A copy of your passport or your birth certificate with proof of your National Insurance (NI).

For Non-British Citizens:
Proof of a valid visa:
   – Tier 2 visas: You’ll also need to submit your Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS).
   – Tier 4 visas: You’ll also need to provide an enrolment letter and course term dates.
   – Overseas applicants: You’ll need to provide a sharecode from the UK government website, using your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) card, along with a valid photographic ID.

Note: We do not sponsor visas and no longer accept overseas passports for Right to Work checks.

NISCC PIN

Carers and senior carers in Northern Ireland must provide a valid NISCC PIN to register with Florence.

If you’re not yet registered, you can apply via the NISCC website. Once you have your PIN, enter it onto the app so we can verify your status.

Up-to-date police check

To work with Florence, you’ll need the right police check for your location.

Northern Ireland (AccessNI)
   – Once your application is nearly complete, we’ll provide you with a code.
   – Use this code to apply for an AccessNI certificate through their website—this must be requested via an employer.
   – There is no cost to you for this check.

Two proofs of address

To register with Florence, please provide two documents that verify your address. These documents help us confirm both your identity and place of residence. Read more info here.

Accepted proof of address documents issued within the last 3 months:
   – Utility bill (e.g., gas, electricity, satellite TV, landline phone)
   – Bank or building society statements/account confirmation letter
   – Solicitor’s letter confirming a recent home purchase or land registry document

Accepted proof of address documents issued within the last 12 months:
   – Original mortgage statement from a recognised lender (covering the previous full year)
   – Council tax bill (typed version only) for the current tax year
   – Rent card or tenancy agreement from the council or housing association (current year)
   – P45 or P60
   – HMRC self-assessment letter or tax demand dated for the current financial year
   – Electoral Register entry
   – NHS medical card or a registration confirmation letter from your GP practice

Important: Ensure your documents reflect the current UK tax year, which runs from 6 April to 5 April the following year.

Documents we cannot accept:
   – Payslips
   – Hospital letters
   – Mobile phone bills
   – Provisional driving licence
   – Credit card statements

I don’t have enough work experience

To register as with Florence, carers will need at least 6 months* of care experience in the UK, whilst senior carers will need at least 3 years* of care experience in the UK.

Who should I ask for my 2 references?

You’ll need at least two employment references who can confirm your professional care experience. One of your references must be from your most recent UK employer.

We accept references from:
   – A care home manager or another equivalent-level healthcare employer.
   – A band-5 nurse or higher.
   – A representative from an agency you’ve previously worked for in a healthcare role.
