HC-One group care homes have changed their policy for working with agency staff during the coronavirus pandemic. The change comes into effect from Monday 13th July onwards.  

If you’re a Florence nurse or carer, this could affect your upcoming shifts. Find details about the policy change below, as well as guidance for what to do if you are affected.

New agency staff policy for HC-One care homes

From Monday 13th July, you will need to fulfil both these criteria to work in an HC-One care home:

1. Have a negative test result for COVID-19, dated within the last seven days of your shift start. 

2. Have not worked anywhere else in the last 14 days before your shift start. 

You must be able to fulfil both criteria in order to work.

If you fulfil only one of the criteria, you will not be able to work. You will need to supply proof you fit the required criteria to the care home manager at the start of your shift.

How do I prove I fit the criteria to work shifts? 

You can provide proof for both the criteria points in the following ways:

  1. Negative COVID-19 test

You will need to be able to show the care home manager your official test result text or email. 

Your test result text or email should say you have tested negative for COVID-19, and must be dated within the last seven days of your shift start date. 

  1. Work history from previous 14 days

You can confirm to your Florence account manager ahead of your shift that you haven’t worked anywhere else in the past 14 days.

How do I get tested?

As explained in our post on weekly testing for agency staff, if you're already working at a care home (including an HC-One home), you should now be offered testing at the home once a week.

We recognise that in reality, not all homes are doing this yet.

We recommend you consider arranging your own COVID-19 testing, at least once a week, to help ensure you have test results ready to show as required.

How do I know if my shifts are affected?

We are working hard to ensure everyone with shifts affected has this information.

1. Your account manager will be in contact with you directly if you have shifts booked at an HC-One care home for the week of July 13th.

2. All affected shift descriptions for HC-One care homes will be updated on Florence by Saturday 11th July. These descriptions will make the criteria for working the shift clear.

Going forward, all HC-One shift descriptions will include the criteria needed to apply. This will continue on Florence for as long as the policy is active.

What do I do next?

We strongly recommend logging in to Florence this weekend (from 11th July) to check the descriptions of your upcoming shifts, to understand if you are affected. 

If you are affected, your account manager will be in touch to discuss your options. If you cannot fulfil the criteria to work, your account manager can help you find other shifts on Florence. 

When using Florence in future, carefully review shift descriptions to understand if the home has this policy in place, and only apply if you know you can meet the criteria to work the shift.
